Obituary

Thomas P. Murphy, 60 of Hamden died peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus after a short illness. Tom was born in New Haven on March 11, 1956, a son of the late Thomas J. and Rose DelMonico Murphy, and was a lifelong Hamden resident. Tom attended Notre Dame High School of West Haven and then Hamden High School before starting a forty year career in the IT Industry. He worked for various IT companies including Bankputer, and Data Control Group, along with IT Management positions at Lafayette American Bank, and Dime Bank. He most recently worked as Vice President in the IT group of iStar, Inc. in Glastonbury, CT. Tom enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including biking, chemistry, physics, lasers and computers. Besides his two dalmations, Major and Sadie, his greatest passion was the automotive world which lead to many an hour building motors, and hot rodding his various cars through the years, including his '32 Ford Roadster, custom Corvette, and Lotus. For a number of years Tom volunteered for American Warrior, a Connecticut charity which sponsors trips to Washington, D.C. for WWII Veterans, of which his late mother; Captain Rose DelMonico Murphy was their oldest participant at 99. Tom is survived by his cousins Albert Mignone and his wife Linda of Middletown, Ernestine Cwik and her husband Dr. Ronald Cwik of Guilford, Kathleen Hocevar and her husband Burgess of Germantown, TN, Ernest DelMonico and his wife Janet, and Mary Dombrowski of New York City, and his close friends Philip and Eileen Rapuano of Stafford, CT, and Sandra Draper of Hamden. He was predeceased by his cousin Maureen Giaimo.

Tom's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in Tom's name may be sent to American Warrior, P.O.
