Perpetua Rivera Cuevas, 88 of New Haven died peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus, with her loving family by her side after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Cayetano Rivera. Perpetua was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico on August 4, 1927, a daughter of the late Jesus and Maria Avila Cuevas, and had resided in New Haven for the past thirty years. She was a longtime member of Star of Jacob Christian Church of New Haven. Perpetua is survived by three daughters, Raquel Zayas and her husband Domingo Zayas of Hamden, Igdalia Rivera Cordero and her husband Narcisco Cordero of Tampa, FL, and Rosita Cordero Rivera, and her husband Eduardo Cordero of New Haven, two sons, Isaias Rivera and his wife Maria Rodriguez, and Ismael Rivera and his wife Carmen Elia Del Rio of Hatillo, PR, one brother, Wilfredo Cuevas of Hatillo, thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, aand three great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Hilda Rivera, and four brothers and sisters.

Perpetua's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Star of Jacob Christian Church, 506 Howard Ave., New Haven. A funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven has been entrusted with arrangements.
