Obituary

Millicent E. Monsanto, 94 of New Haven died peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. Ms. Monsanto was born in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands on June 6, 1922 a daughter of the late Francisco Ross and the late Tryphema Monsanto, and had resided in New Haven for the past ten years. While in St. Thomas she worked as a self-employed domestic care taker, and was a long standing member of the New Hernhut Morgavian Church of St. Thomas. Ms. Monsanto is survived by one daughter, Janet S. Vanterpool of New Haven, three sisters, Bernice Diggs and Eulalie Pickering of Queens, NY, and Amanda Fields of North Carolina, four grandchildren, Nicole and Angelique Vanterpool, Lionel Richards and Kareem Todman, and one great grandson, Javier Stephens. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mildred Diggs and Dorothy Williams, and four brothers, Louis Isaac, Raymond Isaacs, and Joseph and Earl Pickering.

Funeral services for Ms. Monsanto will take place in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven has been entrusted with local arrangements. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
