Loving Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Niece


Mara Leon Halepas of Orange died peacefully at her home on Friday, September 15, 2017 with her loving family by her side. Mara was born in Meriden, a daughter of the late Leon and Haritsa Xanthakos Halepas, and had resided in the Orange-Milford area for the past seventeen years. She was a part owner of National Wholesale Florist Supply Co., Inc. of Orange. Mara was a longtime dedicated member of St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church. She was a vocalist with the Grecian Nights Orchestra. Her passion was to perform Greek Popular and Folk Music. She performed in several venues, including the Odyssey Festival at St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church in Orange, and she was the first female vocalist to appear at the former Basil's Restaurant in New Haven. Mara's three loves of life were music, family and her two nieces. She is survived by her beloved sister Stephanie Halepas and her dear friend Richard Free, and her beloved brother Peter Halepas of Orange, two treasured nieces, Haritsa and Sofia Halepas of Woodbridge, her loving aunt Georgia Alexander of Guilford, and several loving cousins. Mara's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Burial will be private.
