Loving Wife, Mother and Sister


Lena Morico Sagnella, 94 of North Haven, formerly of Hamden died peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Montowese Health & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore E. Sagnella. Lena was born in West Haven on June 25, 1922, a daughter of the late John and Theresa Morterello Morico, and had resided in Hamden for most of her life. She was a crossing guard for the Town of Hamden for thirty nine years, retiring in 2001. Lena was a former member of the New Haven Council of Catholic Women, and the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group at St. Stephen Church. She is survived by one daughter, Sally Freeman of Ft. Meyers, FL, one son, William A. Sagnella of West Haven, two sisters, Grace Bissonnette of New Haven and Frances Aceto of East Haven, and one brother, Anthony Ruocco, also of East Haven. She was predeceased by her birth parents, Frank and Rafaella Ruocco, two sisters, Theresa Colacrai and Marie Donnarummo, and one brother, Gennaro Ruocco.

Lena's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Her funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in St. Stephen Church, Hamden. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Memorial contributions in Lena's name may be made to St. Stephen Church, 400 Ridge Rd., Hamden, CT 06517.
