Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother

Obituary

Albert J. Magliochetti, Sr., 88 of Hamden, beloved husband, father and grandfather met his angels, and passed on to eternal life on Saturday, March 4, 2017. The void he leaves in the lives of those who loved him and looked to him for answers, is beyond words. Albert was born on May 5, 1928 in Hamden, to the late Angelina (Mascia) Magliochetti, and Alfredo Magliochetti. He graduated from Boardman Trade School in 1949, specializing in carpentry, and thereafter embarked on his lifelong passion of teaching himself and ultimately mastering, every trade. He was proud of his 129 IQ, but didn't have the opportunity for post-secondary education. Instead, he acquired and soaked up knowledge in virtually every subject. He was our walking, talking "google". He was an accomplished carpenter, tool and die maker, plumber, electrician, mechanic, tile setter and mason. There was nothing he couldn't make or fix, and he always had a project in the works. Albert served in the United States Army during the Korean War, as a Military Policeman stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He returned from the Army an reunited with the woman he loved, Frances Raccio, and they married in 1955, thereafter celebrating 61 years together as husband and wife. In addition to his wife Francis (Raccio) Magliochetti of Hamden, Albert leaves three children; Albert J. Magliochetti, Jr. of Burbank, California, Attorney Lisa A. Magliochetti of West Hartford and Gary J. Magliochetti of Hamden who lived with his parents and cared for his father's needs until the end. Albert was an incredible husband and father, often working three jobs simultaneously to provide for his family. His first job, learning the tool and die making trade, was at Ciemer and Raynor where he proudly recalled his first weekly paycheck of $179.00. Thereafter, he held primary employment at Schick Razor/Warner-Lambert and Sikorsky Aircraft, a division of United Technologies. In addition to his wife and children, Albert also leaves his cherished grandson, Nicholas A. Magliochetti of West Hartford, who is for all intents and purposes, a chip of his grandfather's block. Together they shared the same sharp mind, inquisitiveness and passion for knowledge, which manifested in hours of intellectual conversation over the kitchen table. Grandpa/Dad had the answer to virtually every question, as well as the history behind the answer. In his absence, we now have to find our answers. In addition to his parents, Albert was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Magliochetti and Alfred Magliochetti, and his sister Theresa (Magliochetti) Santillo. He leaves his sister Mary V. (Magliochetti) Polio of Hamden. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews to whom he played Santa Claus on Christmas Eve for many years during their childhoods. He recounted fond memories of Sundays at the shooting range with his favorite nephew Tom Bellonio of East Haven, and expressed sincere gratitude to his nephew Andrew Esposito of Northford for supporting his daughter Lisa while she managed his healthcare issues toward the end of his earthly journey. Affectionately, recalled as "Big Al", and "Al Magpie", Albert J. Magliochetti, Sr. lived a life as large as his 6'1" frame. He was at times irreverent and outspoken, but equally soft hearted and sentimental. He lived and ultimately passed, on his own terms. He eagerly and at time impatiently awaited the next phase of his journey. "I want to fly", he said. We believe he is doing just that…

Albert's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow in Al Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Memorial contributions in Albert's name may be made to the Albert J. Magliochetti, Sr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Lisa A. Magliochetti, Esq., 12 North Main Street, Suite 20, West Hartford, CT 06107. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
