Alejo Torres, 90 of Hamden, formerly of New Haven and Freeport, NY died peacefully at the Arden House, Hamden with his loving family by his side. Alejo was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on April1, 1928 a beloved son of the late Juan Torres and the late Martina Serrano. After moving from Puerto Rico, Alejo had resided in Freeport, NY for many years before moving to New Haven where he lived for eight years. He had since lived in Hamden for the past two and one half years. Alejo was a machine operator for the Columbian Bronze Corp. of Freeport for twenty years, and later worked for the former H.B. Ives Co. of New Haven for two years, retiring in 1993. He is survived by two daughters, Nilda Torres of New Haven and Dolores "Lolita" Torres of Miami, FL, three sons, Heriberto Torres and his wife Grace of Miami, Hector Torres and his wife Maribel of New Haven and Paul Torres of Freeport, three sisters, Dominga Andujar and her husband José and Maria Haydee Torres of Arecibo, PR, and Angelina Serrano and her husband Silfredo Serrano of Miami, one brother, Antonio Torres of Arecibo, and five grandchildren, Elvin, Eddie, Hector Torres, II, Carol and Alexandra Torres. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Damaris Torres, two sisters, Leonor and Andrea Torres, and six brothers, Alejandro, Eugenio, Bartolo, Manuel, Juan and José Torres. Alejo's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, October 9th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal, M.I., 99 East Pearl St., New Haven. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 10th at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. The Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven has been entrusted with arrangements.
